Life on Planet Janet!

Posted on 07 August 2009

It’s a blessing and a curse running a jewellery website.

On the positive side, it keeps you bang up-to-date with what’s occurring on Planet Janet because you’re drawn like Coco to Chanel to the ever-changing trend-fest of fickle fashion. The downside is, you’re never off-duty. Far more likely to be checking out what trendy little item a celebrity’s got around her neck, or wrist, than who’s on her arm.  And talking of spotting the latest trends, I’m constantly being asked for the inside story on next season.  So here goes.  According to industry sources there are several key looks.

shoulderpads

Remember Dallas, Dynasty and big shoulder pads?  The look is back with a vengeance! Designer’s just adore the 1980s because it was so utterly OTT and bold.  This time round is no exception with full-on power dressing – especially for evening wear.  If all goes according to plan,  we’ll all be sporting billowing bows, extravagant fabrics and oozing shedloads of hardcore sex appeal.

As for jewellery, we’ve got plenty that ticks the boxes, from Crystal Ropes and Bow brooches to uber-dazzling Diamante Ties. All designed to add glitz and glam to an oversize-shoulder black jacket and trousers, with pearls to soften the look.  And talking of pearls and bows, they also feature large for the look that goes to celebrate the launch of iconic fashion flick “Coco before Chanel”

The Dazzling Diva Look is also hot to trot.  That’s Hollywood glamour with high octane shimmer and loadsa sparkle as fabrics go metallic and Divas add brilliant flashes of diamante.  Which is all great for madaboutjewellery.com as our Diamante and Swarovski Crystal Jewellery sections can more than cater for everyone’s taste and budget!  Just remember much is more.  Little is pointless!

On studying the runways recently, I couldn’t help but notice an undertone of Punk at Balmain and Mark Fast.  Provocative and glamorously edgy, with exposed zips, lots of studs and wet-look satin creating an overtly seductive statement.  Time for us to push our Leopardskin pieces and big bold bangles and cuffs – including the aptly named “Studz”, which comes in single, double or triple widths.   The same runway show also highlighted a trend from Dolce & Gabbanna for the Monochrome Look. No shades of grey here, just the whitest of white set against jet black creating a sophisticated new season trend that slips from am to pm with consummate ease.  My style tip would be to add snow white jewellery to black outfits or midnight jet jewellery  to white outfits for the look in an instant!  This week the freelance stylists seem to be calling in all things Military. That’s Military style coats, jackets, trousers, jeans. Waistcoats. White shirts. Chunky knits. Shoes with a heavy, masculine style or military details.  And from a jewellery point of view, it’s medals, crosses, anchors, chains and brooches, brooches, brooches!  And by the way…navy is the new black!
