Old Rock Chicks Are The Best Rock Chicks

The new rock chick style is upon us.  Glamorous, grungy and calculatingly cool, it’s a timeless trend that’s been reinvented again, thanks to Balmain, Alexander Wang and Armani, whose runway rocked rebelliously to the strains of Tina Turner, as thigh-high boots, leather leggings, power punk make-up and the born again, Helmut Lang favourite, the Leather Biker Jacket emerged triumphant.a testamanet to the 1980s and the original rock chicks.

So what makes this particular Rock Chick look so appealing?

Unlike the previous biker jacket revival – designed largely for the teens and early twenties, Rock Chick 2009 has come of age reinventing the style of the rock chicks of the 1980s. The sensual mix of biker grunge and grown-up glamour, personified by Love, Faithful and Harry.

Courtney Love, the Queen of Grunge and expert at mixing pretty with punk, finds herself the pin-up for a new generation of rock chicks who follow her lead in mixing tough with feminine, lace with the new leather Biker Jacket – with shedloads of ruby red lipstick.

The Swinging Sixties icon, Marianne Faithful, captured the hearts and imagination of everyone – including Mick Jagger – in a fur-lined leather jumpsuit for her film, Girl on a Motorcycle.  Totally Rock Chick 2009, with one major exception. No sexy, long, blonde hair streaming out behind her in the wind,  Health & Safety would insist on a Helmet – not a good look!!!!!!

Debbie Harry’s style was cool and sexy, with lots of colour and shine.  Traditional tops were slashed and individualised by the addition of sequins, leggings and awesome heels on boots and shoes.  Debbie’s Heart of Glass was pure diamante.  Sorry, dynamite.
