About
My name is Mark Newton-Carter and I have the challenging task of managing this blog. I have vast experience in building and running various websites and although I spend a great deal of my time dealing with the technical side of websites, I am a designer at heart as well as a tech head! I have my own web design company, but most of my time is spent updating, monitoring and maintaining www.madaboutjewellery.com, the online jewellery website that I started with my partner Jo Allen back in 2001.
As one of the UK’s leading high fashion jewellery websites, we are constantly updating our look and products according to the latest trends and we appear regularly in the fashion magazines and on GMTV’s “This Morning” . We also supply the jewellery for a myriad of high profile TV programmes.
It’s fun running a high fashion jewellery shop but it’s also a major challenge for myself and the Team to keep madaboutjewellery.com consistently high in the search engine rankings.
Apart from my love for computers and all their capabilities, I spend as much time as possible with my horses. I ride regularly and study Parelli Natural Horsemanship which is simply wonderful for developing a much greater understanding of horse personality (horsenality) and horse behaviour. I ride shoeless and bitless and the three basic principles of the system are love, language and leadership. As well as being fundamental to my relationship with horses, these principles apply to the whole of my life and my approach to the many challenges involving madaboutjewellery.com. The outdoor life is a wonderful counterbalance to my sedentary life in front of a bank of computers!
Some of my other sites can be seen at www.designmark.co.uk. Interestingly, most of the websites I created have a female demographic so they may be of particular interest to you.

What’s in a name?
Hi I’m Jo Allen, unfortunately not the owner of the Covent Garden restaurant famed for its celebrity clientele, but Jo without the “e”, the Sales & Marketing Director of www.madaboutjewellery.com
It’s my job to discover new trends and products, stock the latest must-haves and maintain the quirky and classic lines that allow us to offer a comprehesive range for all ages, tastes and budgets.
It also falls within my job spec to name, price and write about the thousands of products on the site. From the Puff the Magic Dragon brooch, to the Swarovski crystal Mighty Moulin Rouge Set, each has its own name, attributes and personality. But hey, that’s the product plus of having a previous life as a copywriter in many of London’s leading Advertising Agencies.
Such a training also means I find myself writing the Company’s e-mails, blogs and newsletters. The e-mails to the database, in particular, are usually created in the style of ads and wherever possible, as well as imparting information, I aim to make people smile first thing in a morning or over a cup of tea!
I guess I could be described as a bit of a workaholic, but when you’re working in fashion and you’re absolutely mad about jewellery, that’s no hardship and tonight I’m going out to dinner with a bunch of people who’ve been in jewellery for 20 years. Yep, you’re absolutely right I do need to “get a life”!
